I've been using this app since 2014. Through many updates and changes, some I liked better than others, the app has been consistent in providing an easier and great trail experience. It was really good on my Colorado trail thru hike, but recently it has become next to impossible to open it. The last time I tried, the app showed me a load screen for nearly half an hour before I gave up and closed out of it. I have tried putting my phone on airplane mode, restarting my phone, restarting the app, but nothing seems to work.2024-06-09 00:19:29

TERRIBLE, an offline app that won't load so I can download the BMT trail map, which I paid $12 for. tried restarting phone, tried reinstalling app. this app does nothing but eat battery life. from those I know who have guthook, they say it sucks since the last update anyways due to no parking locations, bad trail head coordinates, etc. wouldn't trust an app that can't load with signal to guide me when I could be lost and in danger.2024-06-09 00:17:50

9/2021 I gave this app 5 stars. 4/2023 maps I paid for are gone. The support steps are a pain in the butt. I followed them they dont work. I just paid $96 for a premium subscription. No satisfaction. GAIA, less expensive and works as expected. Now I have to try to get a charge back on my card. But will lose the money for my already purchased maps from previous years.2024-06-07 10:30:49

Samsung Galaxy 5 android version 6.01. required 3 attempts to open the app. If you keep the app open you can avoid this. l was on the PCT and attempted to make a custom route. The app forced close and I was never able to use the app again, it would load then force close again. I have switched back to the original Guthook PCT version (when I reached Big Bear ) and will be using the tried and True. even though I can't make custom routes in the Sierra section. Must have if you're doing anything between an overnight to a thru hike. User reports on water, shelters, towns and more are invaluable. The only 2 things that would make this app 5 star perfect is if it had a dark mode option to preserve battery life, all the white in the comment pages and such is a huge battery drain and preserving battery is highly important on the trail, and lastly live time compass on your location indicator would help a lot.2024-06-07 05:54:25
