Release Date of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection Possibly Leaked
Fans of the Marvel vs. Capcom series might finally have a release date to look forward to, thanks to what seems to be an unintentional online store listing. The much-loved fighting game franchise, which has been in high demand for years, has largely disappeared from digital stores, making it nearly impossible to purchase most of the classic titles.
This scarcity led many to believe that a revival wasn’t on the horizon. However, Capcom and Marvel surprised everyone during Nintendo's June 2024 Direct by unveiling the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. This compilation includes all six classic games from the franchise, starting with X-Men: Children of the Atom and going up to the fan-favorite Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. Yet, the reveal trailer left out one crucial detail—the release date, simply stating 2024. Now, thanks to a potential slip-up, fans might have an early hint at when the collection will drop.
UK retailer ShopTo recently updated its listing for Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, seemingly confirming a release date of November 22, 2024. The information was quickly taken down, but not before sharp-eyed fans spotted the post and shared it on the ResetEra forum.
While it's wise to treat this leak with caution until Capcom or Marvel officially announces the date, releasing the game in the holiday season does seem logical. Major shopping events like Black Friday and Christmas could provide a significant sales boost. However, some fans are concerned about the crowded release schedule for late 2024, with big titles like Assassin's Creed Shadows, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 possibly overshadowing other games during this period.
Despite these concerns, the Marvel vs. Capcom collection is likely to perform well, given the franchise's enduring popularity and the anticipated lower price point. Capcom seems eager to continue bringing its classic fighting games to modern platforms. Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto has hinted at more classic titles making a comeback, and the unexpected return of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos during EVO 2024 has fueled hopes that more Capcom vs. SNK games could be on the way as well.
